Soldiers league team complete the three peaks challenge

On Friday 7th August at 0500 two teams of hill walkers set out to complete the three highest peaks in the UK, starting at Ben Nevis which would take them over 10 hours to reach driving, in itself was a task as the mini bus was governed to 60 miles an hour. On reaching base camp which was the Ben Nevis inn a few beers and warm meal were well appreciated before sleeping were ever we could basher down. An early start and breakfast provided by the support team many thanks to Dave Barbour and Steve Hyde who not only drove and cooked but provided the photography expertise. The walkers in two teams set off in the rain to complete the first mountain.

On completion and after another hot meal we set off on another monster drive to cumbria to complete Scafell Pike. On the way Capt Jonathan Nelson was picked up to assist with the driving many thanks to him for his contribution. The drive was difficult and Scafell was in the middle of no were, one of the mini buses had a blow out and the guys did a grand job getting the minibus sorted and we were back on the road as quick as humanly possible, but this did however effect the over all time making completing the event in under 24 hours pretty much impossible. 6 hours later on arrival and a quick brew, in the pitch black the team set off. By this time all the walkers and drivers were feeling the stain, but to there credit they kept there sense of humour. Pictures were taken on the summits of each mountain and Scafell proved to be a difficult climb under foot in the rain and at night. On there return the teams were fed, cheese burgers and refreshments did the trick and we were off again.

Then as the walkers got some well appreciated sleep the drivers made the long drive to Snowden in north Wales. The usual start point proved to be too busy, so an alternative was found and again after a brew the last hill was started. Again the weather was slight showers even though the weather forecast had predicted a dry weekend it did rain on every hill. The teams completed early on Sunday slightly over the 24 hours but this didn't dampen the enthusiasm on completion as it had been a great challenge with no reported injuries.

Fish and chips were the final meal and apparently they were the best fish and chips ever tasted.
