A big Soldiers League charity day offering four matches, an all-day barbecue and bar, bouncy castle and face-painting, raffles and stalls and a Gala Dinner & Sporting Auction in the evening will take place at Gosport Park tomorrow.

The Army Rats vets' rugby league team will play a Gosport & Fareham Vets XIII play the (3pm).

1st XII coach Sean Fanning and vet Steve Emm will play 40 minutes for both teams whilst Soldiers League chairman Mark Wells will face them in the Gos side which he has been coaching.

At 1.30 there will be more ‘serious' rugby league when Portsmouth Seahawks face South London in the Summer Conference Southern Division (1.30pm). The Seahawks are the Navy's new rugby league set-up based at Burnaby Road, Portsmouth.

The vets will be playing for the Sandra Dugan Memorial Cup in the first of what it is hoped will be a regular fundraiser in memory of Sandra, who sadly lost her fight against cancer in June last year.

The charities to benefit from tomorrow's activities are BLESMA, Combat Stress and The Royal British Legion, the nominated charities of the newly formed Soldiers League, and Fred Dugan's chosen charity of Cancer Research in memory of his late wife.

The day kicks off with the Navy Women's rugby league team playing Portsmouth University (10.30am) followed by a rugby union match between Tottonians Women and a Gosport & Fareham Barbarians Women's side.

There are just a couple of places available at the evening Gala Dinner & Sporting Auction - anyone interested should call Fred Dugan on 078440 145723 or Lesley Weatherson on 07736 941789.

Said Fred: "We are all looking forward to great day of sport and a great day of fundraising for all the good causes. I hope lots of people will come along and join in all the fun!"
